Rhys Griffiths, year 13, has accepted an offer to study at one of Oxbridge's colleges next year.

Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg pupil, Rhys Griffiths, has been offered a place to study at Cambridge University next year. Rhys, who is currently in year 13, has accepted an offer at Gonville and Caius Colllege. He follows in a long line of Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg pupils who have studied at Oxbridge Universities.

Rhys Griffiths has been accepted to study English at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Although he applied for the University during the Covid-19 pandemic, Rhys still had to sit an exam and face an interview as the process was completed online this year. He currently studies English, History, Mathematics and Welsh Baccalaureate for A Level at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg’s sixth form. Rhys now becomes the tenth pupil in last five year to be offered a place to study at one of Oxbridge’s prestigious colleges. Of the offer, Rhys said, ‘I’m really looking forward; I’m looking forward to meeting new people, to broaden my horizon and to excel myself. I would really like to thank Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg for all their unwavering support throughout the years and especially as I prepared for this interview. Now, I can’t wait until September for the experience and the chance to learn more.’

Mr Angell-Jones, Headteacher at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg said, ‘We are extremely proud of Rhys and his success. Every year we enjoy seeing our sixth form pupils continue with their studies and succeed. To be offered a place to study at one of the world’s best universities is a credit to Rhys but also to the school.’

We wish Rhys the best for September. Llongyfarchiadau!
