  • 20 Medal Haul at Urdd Eisteddfod

    YGBM Celebrate 20 Medal Haul at the Urdd Eisteddfod 2019

    Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg enjoyed a successful Urdd National Eisteddfod. The week long festival celebrating Welsh language and culture was held in Cardiff Bay this year and YGBM pupils won a total of 20 medals in a wide range of categories from singing, acting, creative writing, art, music, mathematics and hairdressing.

    Adding to the celebrations was the announcement that former pupil Brennig Davies had won The Crown, the main literary prize for prose. Brennig, now a first-year student at Oxford University where he is reading English explained that the main reason he had competed for The Crown was the school.

    YGBM Year 11 Pupils Last Day

    On Friday 10 May Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg wished ‘pob dymuniad da i chi', good luck to their Year 11 pupils.

    After a morning of GCSE exams, Year 11 pupils were taken to Pizza Express in Cardiff Bay to celebrate their last day in school before breaking up for study leave.

  • 'Outstanding Personality' at ESU Grand Final 2019

    YGBM Represent Wales and Pupil wins 'Outstanding Personality' at English Speaking Union Grand Final 2019

    On 27 April, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg public speaking team represented Wales in the English Speaking Union Churchill Public Speaking Competition.

    The competition had over 1200 entrants and the last eight teams competed in the UK Grand Final at Churchill College, Cambridge.

    Rhys Griffiths, year 11 pupil and speaker for YGBM team was awarded ‘Outstanding Personality’ for the competition. Rhys was accompanied by his team mates, Sara Jones: chair and Morgan Bailey: questioner. He spoke on the topic ‘We should lower the voting age to 16’

  • A visit to the Menin Gate for YGBM pupils

    Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg pupils have had a busy half term, with school trips to China, Iceland and a poignant trip to Belgium’s battlefields.

    This initial trip to Belgium was organised to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War 1; with 90, year 9, pupils visiting important historical locations of the Great War.

  • YGBM win through to Quarter Final of Debating Championship

    On 13 November Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg year 12 pupils, Huw Jones and Tia Roach, competed in the 2018 Julian Hodge Bank Wales Schools Debating Championship, held at Olchfa School in Swansea.

    Competing against three other schools, Huw and Tia won the Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot round and now go on to the quarter finals. The eight regional winners will compete against each other in Newtown, early in January 2019.

  • YGBM Welcome senior diplomats from FCO

    On Tuesday 9 October, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg school welcomed senior leaders from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

    The senior diplomats held a question and answer session with students which gave the pupils an opportunity to understand the work undertaken by the FCO and perhaps inspire the sixth formers in their future career choices. In return, the visiting party learnt about the aspirations and issues that matter to this young generation.
